A Warm Welcome for Our New Hire
2017 is already shaping up to be an exciting year. As we begin to partner with new clients and work on solving greater challenges, our team also continues to grow and we are happy to welcome our new Project Manager, Mitchell Perry Baker!
Mitchell grew up in Stillwater, MN, studied International Relations in London, England, and cut his teeth as a Project Manager in New York City. He comes to 5IVE with an incredibly diverse background and worldly point of view, not to mention his positive attitude, invigorating energy, and solid approach to project management and creative production. We are very excited to have him on our team and can’t wait to see what we will accomplish together.
Learn a little more about Mitchell from these 5 questions with 5IVE’s newest hire…
1 – What were you up to before coming to 5IVE?
I was working as a project manager who wore many hats at an agency called Identity Atélier in New York City. Our main clientele consisted of boutique hotel properties and hospitality companies. I had the chance to work on everything from complete rebrands and operation evaluations of hotels to creating custom scented candles for events and retail. I actually ended up in the hotel branding industry by accident. When I came to New York, I knew that I wanted to be involved in the creative world. I had a spur of the moment opportunity to work in the field as a personal assistant only a couple of weeks into my job search, and over time that morphed into a full-time project manager role.
2 – What are you most excited about at 5IVE?
First, I’m really excited about the clientele, which is very in tune with my values and interests. I love working with localized clients that actually care about the direction our society is going. Second, I’m looking forward to settling back into the place I call home. New York is go-go-go and Minnesota is much more “nice”.
3 – Why did you choose to join a small team?
I like small teams. You get the chance to really know everyone and there is a lot of room for collaboration. Everyone can have a voice and their point of view can come into play without slowing a project down.
4 – What is the future of branding?
The future will require brands to be more experiential, authentic, and streamlined. From my experience, consumers today are craving brands that cut out all of the fussy, unnecessary features and give them an experience that is simple and refined, but still well designed. One of my favorite brands who fit this criteria is the Ace Hotel. Everything from their collateral to their interiors and programming is very thoughtful and intentional.
5 – If you could have one superpower what would it be and why?
Definitely teleportation, because I love to travel but I don’t necessarily love the process of traveling. It would be great to avoid security, travel on the weekends, and spend the time normally devoted to transit actually enjoying my destination.
I have felt very welcomed coming to 5IVE. New York was very intimidating at first, but here I felt at home right away. I love our office space, I’m excited about the clients and projects, and I can’t wait to dive in.
